Great Book
So far I’ve made the stuffed cabbage, city chicken and the dill pickle soup. Easy to follow recipes my mother in law was from polish, I followed these recipes and they taste just like hers I’m excited work /eat my way thru the neighborhoods in this book. I’m from Michigan and still live here, I enjoy that this book contains the recipes but also the history of the neighborhoods.
Beautiful pictures straight forward recipes
This cookbook is amazing. The history about the neighborhoods and origins of recipes take me back. The photos are on point and recipes are straight forward and not complicated. the Almond Chicken photo looks exactly like I remember from the Golden Buddha on Detroits East Side back in the day! bought 2 for my sisters xmas gifts now I need one for myself!
A Welcome Home.
Since leaving Detroit, I have been searching for the perfect Coney Island. We used to eat them after bar-close, stopping at one of the many Coneys in Downriver. This book nails it—the secret: beef heart. I never was into eating organs, but this converted me. I also made Gballah for my wife. It, too, was wonderfully comforting. I love reminding myself of how diverse the D is and what a great buffet the City presented. This book does it great justice.
